FAQS

Do you offer Live Chat support, and if so, when?

Yes, we are happy to offer Live Chat assistance on Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM ET. Please reach out if you have any questions about any of the breast pumps that are available to order through insurance. We can also place your order for you.

Are breast pump upgrade costs covered under my insurance?

Insurance upgrade costs are not covered by insurance and must be paid out of pocket at the time of order placement. Additionally, upgrade costs cannot be submitted by Byram Healthcare to your insurance provider. If you have an FSA/HSA, you may be able to submit the upgrade cost through these programs for reimbursement. You may also check with your insurance provider to see if the upgrade cost can be applied towards your co-pay or deductible so that you can submit your claim directly with your insurance provider.

Are the breast pumps returnable?

Due to the fact a breast pump is a personal hygiene product, all sales of breast pumps are considered final and no returns will be accepted.

Can a breast pump be covered under the father's plan?

Yes, as long as the mother is covered under the father's insurance plan. Otherwise, the breast pump is for the mother and therefore would be covered under her insurance plan.

Can I order a breast pump and have my secondary insurance plan billed?

The secondary insurance plan may be used only if the Primary insurance provider does not offer any coverage for breast pumps. We would need to get a refusal of coverage from the primary before we can supply under the secondary.

Can I pay to have my breast pump order expedited?

It is possible to have your order expedited. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 877-773-1972 for details.

Do I need a prescription?

Most insurance providers now require a physician's order. Your physician will be contacted by us to provide documentation related to your pregnancy.

Do I need to enter my primary care physician or my OB/GYN on the order form?

We require the primary care physician. If you do not have a primary physician, then please provide your OB/GYN.

Do the breast pumps have BPA-free attachments?

Yes. All of the breast pumps offered by Byram have breast shields and collection containers/bottles that are made from a durable BPA-free plastic.

Do you offer accessories for the breast pumps?

Not at this time. If you are interested in non-insurance covered items such as breast pump replacement parts, breast milk bottles, nursing pads and skincare, power cords and adaptors, they are available through ApriaDirect.com. Use coupon code BYRAM20 during checkout to receive an extra 20% off most items.

Does Byram carry any models with a battery pack?

The Ardo, Evenflo, Medela and Lansinoh models have a battery compartment. The AA batteries needed to operate the pumps are not included. The Ameda Mya and Freemie Independence systems have rechargeable batteries included.

Does Byram offer a breast pump rental program?

We do not.

Does Byram provide the hospital grade/strength breast pump?

We offer personal-use breast pumps. “Hospital-strength” has become a marketing term that manufacturers use when selling certain pump models. The term “hospital-strength pump” is not recognized by the FDA and there is no consistent definition for this term. Individual companies could mean different things when they label their breast pumps as having hospital-strength.

Historically, the breast pumps sold for use in hospitals have had different features and performance than the pumps sold for personal-use. We do not offer breast pumps sold to hospitals. Insurance companies differentiate personal-use pumps and hospital-grade pumps with different codes that are used when processing a claim. The main differentiating factors are that personal use electric breast pumps typically are lighter and slightly less efficient than the hospital-grade models. Hospital pumps can be used by multiple moms when they each have their own accessory kit versus a personal-use breast pump that are sold and clearly labeled for use by one mom.

Advances in technology have closed the gap in the difference in performance between the breast pump marketed to hospitals and a personal-use pump.

How do I receive my tracking number?

You will automatically receive a shipping notification and a tracking number which will be sent to the email address that you provided to Byram when entering your order.

How long will it take for my breast pump to arrive?

In most instances, total processing and delivery time will be approximately 4-7 work days from the day you place your order with us. Some insurance plans require that we wait to process the order 30 days prior to the baby's birth date and some plans require that the baby has been born before we can ship the breast pump.

My insurance covers up to a certain dollar amount, but I'd like to pay an additional amount to upgrade my breast pump. Can I pay to upgrade my choice of breast pump?

The breast pumps we are offering meet the guidelines under your insurance plan and are models that allow you to maximize your insurance coverage. Your insurance provider may have told you that you can have any breast pump you want, and this is true; so long as the price falls within the reimbursement rate that they have established. We do offer upgrade breast pumps that contain features and/or accessories that would classify them as a premium breast pump. You may upgrade to one of these breast pump packages for a modest fee that would cover the cost of the additional features or accessories.

What are the restrictions as to when I can order a breast pump? Why is Byram not allowing me to get my breast pump before my baby is born?

Your insurance provider determines when we are able to ship a breast pump. Many plans do not have any restrictions.

What breast pumps does Byram offer?

We have breast pumps available from Medela, Ameda, Evenflo, Freemie, Lansinoh, Spectra, Elvie, Willow and Ardo. Please click on "Start Order" above to begin the ordering process and see what is available to you based on your insurance plan.

What if verification with my insurance company denies coverage?

Under the health reform law, pregnant and postpartum women will have access to comprehensive lactation support and counseling as well as breast-feeding equipment, in conjunction with each birth, without cost-sharing (copayment, coinsurance or deductible).

Breast-feeding services and equipment are covered without cost-sharing when received by a network provider, during pregnancy and/or in the postpartum period, starting on the plan's first renewal date on or after Aug. 1, 2012.

There are reasons that your insurance company may deny a purchase of a pump through Byram including:

  • -Plan has not yet renewed
  • -Some self-funded plans have opted out of the health reform
  • -Plan only covers rentals
  • -Plan covers only hospital grade or manual pumps

If you are denied coverage, you should refer to your policy to see if breast pumps are specifically cited in the language of your provider's Medical Devices.

What kind of data and information is required to handle a breast pump order?

We require your contact information (name, address, etc..) physician information (your physician will be contacted to provide documentation related to your pregnancy) and insurance information as well as the baby's date of birth or due date.

What type of proof do you need that the baby was born (is there a form)?

Byram does not need proof. Your insurance provider may contact you to confirm the birth of your child when they are processing the claim.

Where can I get more information about products?

You may visit the following manufacturer websites:

It is important to note that the retail versions of the breast pumps on the manufacturer site may be different than the breast pump we offer in terms of accessories that are included. The breast pumps we provide arrive with what's needed to start pumping right away.
